May 26Mercy Housing California celebrates two new properties in Sacramento
Mercy Housing California dedicated two new affordable housing communities in Sacramento this month — Ardenaire Apartments on May 15 and Martin Luther King, Jr. Village on May 21.
Ardenaire Apartments is a 53-unit property for low-income individuals and families. Nineteen of the refurbished, affordable apartment homes are for formerly homeless families and individuals.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Village consists of 80 new, affordable studio cottages for people who are formerly homeless. The property’s on-site, 4,815-square-foot community building includes offices for property management, resident services and outside service providers. It also houses a laundry room, fully equipped kitchen, multi-purpose meeting room, resident lounge and computer lab.
Both properties are part of Sacramento’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness, which has helped create housing for more than 300 people since September 2006.
California State Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg was the featured guest speaker at both dedication events. Sen. Steinberg is the author of Proposition 63, the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), passed by California voters in November 2004 and designed to expand and transform California’s county mental health service systems. Funding from Prop 63 is helping to provide services for residents at both Ardenaire Apartments and Martin Luther King, Jr. Village.
Collaborative partners in these two new MHC communities include The Effort, whose mission is to transform and improve lives by offering an integrated continuum of mental health care, addictions treatment, and health care services for individuals, families, and the community in the Sacramento region; and Turning Point Community Programs, whose mission is to provide integrated, cost-effective mental health services, employment and housing for adults, children and their families that promote recovery, independence and self-sufficiency.
