Mercy Housing Lakefront Unveils Lakefront Residences of Grayslake

Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor & Mercy Housing Lakefront President Cindy Holler lead others in the ribbon-cutting ceremony

Mercy Housing Lakefront unveiled the Lakefront Residences of Grayslake, the organization’s newest building, earlier this month. The 70-unit new construction building will serve seniors in Grayslake and throughout Lake County.

Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor as well as State Representative-elect Sam Yingling attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We are thrilled to welcome Mercy Housing to the Grayslake community,” said Mayor Taylor.

Lakefront Residences is a private development that will be affordable to moderate-income seniors as well as 25 low-income seniors with special needs. Mercy Housing developed the property after encouragement from Lake County United. The new building will assist in filling the gap in affordable and special needs-serving senior housing in the Lake County region.

“It has been a challenging road to complete this project,” remarked Cindy Holler, President of Mercy Housing Lakefront. “But we are so excited to be a part of this beautiful community, and because of true dedication and perseverance Lake County seniors will now have a comfortable and affordable place to call home.”

The building is in the process of achieving its National Green Building Certification and showcases several innovative design features such as a hybrid geothermal heating and cooling system. Other sustainable features include solar heated domestic hot water, high efficiency furnaces and natural and native landscaping.

The property offers picturesque views of Gray’s Lake from its expansive front porch. In addition to the views, the property is in close proximity to numerous parks, shops, churches, restaurants as well as a PACE Bus stop and Metra Train stop.

“I can’t wait to move in,” said June McCoy, a retired teacher and future building resident. “I am in my eighties, independent, active, and want to stay in Lake County but my rent doubled while my social security has remained flat. Here, I have found a beautiful apartment I can afford that also offers lots of added amenities like a library with computers and laundry rooms on every floor” Ms. McCoy is active with Lake County United, a local organization of more than 30 institutions organizing in Lake County.  The organization was a key partner in the local support for the building.

Residents are expected to begin the move-in process next month.
