New 70-Unit Affordable Housing Development in Kankakee Slated for December Opening; Unique Partnership Between Mercy Housing Lakefront and Presence Health Will Feature an On-Site Health and Wellness Clinic Serving Residents and the Community

CHICAGO, IL (August 28, 2017) – Mercy Housing Lakefront announced today that it will begin accepting applications on September 5, 2017 for River Station Senior Apartments, a 70-unit affordable housing development in Kankakee designed for low-to-moderate-income seniors. Part of a broad community revitalization strategy in a key area of downtown Kankakee, the project is a collaboration between Mercy Housing Lakefront, the Kankakee County Housing Authority (KCHA), Presence St. Mary’s Hospital and the City of Kankakee.

In addition to one-bedroom units for singles and couples, the development will feature an 1,800-square foot health and wellness clinic facilitated by Presence Health, as well as a broad array of other amenities including a computer lab, fitness room, in-unit laundry, storage rooms, bike storage, property management and resident services offices.

“Mercy Housing Lakefront, along with our partners, is thrilled to be able to provide seniors in Kankakee with such an affordable and service-enriched living environment that will also offer convenient access to basic healthcare support,” said Mercy Housing Lakefront President Mark Angelini. “There is a documented need for these types of apartments in the city, and we anticipate that units will fill quickly. We encourage those interested in applying to do so as soon as possible.”

Apartments will be leased on a first come, first served basis at Mercy Housing Lakefront’s temporary leasing location in the Presence St. Mary’s Medical West Building (555 West Court Street, Suite 106, Kankakee, IL). Beginning at 10 a.m. on September 5, 2017, paper applications will be available at this location, or prospective tenants can access the application online (www.mercyhousing.org/riverstation).

To qualify for housing, the applicant’s annual gross income must be at or below 60 percent of the area median income, which is $27,180 for one person, or $31,080 for two people.
