May 20Resident Artists in Residence
Welcome to The Mercy Housing Collection! This collection highlights the works of over 10 resident artists from six different Mountain Plains communities. These creative works include acrylic pours on canvas, acrylic on canvas, and watercolor with each piece as unique as each resident.
Creating art is a powerful outlet to explore creativity and provides a multitude of positive mental health benefits. It has been linked to the reduction of stress and anxiety, an improved sense of connectedness, and improved cognitive health. It is also used to help people explore feelings that can be difficult to express verbally. Because of these many benefits, Mercy Housing has used art therapy classes with residents to provide a safe place for creative expression and community engagement.
Included in The Mercy Housing Collection are three Community Canvas pieces. These were created prior to COVID-19 in a collaborative effort with youth residents at Denver Metro family properties; Bluff Lake Apartments, Grace Apartments, and Holly Park Apartments. Keeping with the spirit of this year’s Home/Maker theme, each canvas expresses a unique perspective of what nature means to them.
While the resident art and Community Canvas pieces are not for sale, we hope you enjoy the work from the amazing artists who call Mercy Housing home.
