Weinberg/Newton Gallery, in partnership with Mercy Housing Lakefront, hosted the Key Change exhibition from April 29 through July 16. Key Change featured artwork by Gabrielle Garland, Tonika Lewis Johnson, Maymay Jumsai, Riff Studio, and Southside Home Movie Project and illuminated housing injustices that disproportionately impact people with low incomes and Communities of Color and solutions to those injustices.

Throughout the course of the exhibition, Mercy Housing Lakefront and Weinberg/Newton Gallery hosted many educational and community-building events that brought together people from diverse backgrounds from across the Chicagoland area.

The events included an Opening Reception, two Family Days during which people of all ages created artwork inspired by the exhibition, an event focused on the intersection of climate and affordable housing in partnership with the Sunrise Movement, an event featuring Architreasures’ creative placemaking in Mercy Housing Lakefront’s housing communities and Isabel Strauss of Riff Studio, and a Friend Raising event hosted by Mercy Housing Lakefront Board Member, Phill DeSalvo.
