Introducing Columbia Heights

Over the summer, PeaceHealth and Mercy Housing Northwest celebrated the grand opening of Columbia Heights. The affordable housing community is a joint development between the two organizations. It is also Mercy Housing Northwest’s first affordable housing community in southwest Washington.

Columbia Heights includes 69 affordable two- and three-bedroom homes for families in Vancouver, WA. It features a large community room with a kitchen and computer center, and the outdoor recreation space is highlighted by walking paths, seating areas, and a playground.

PeaceHealth approached Mercy Housing Northwest in 2016 to explore how they could take direct action to address housing instability in the communities they serve in Southwest Washington. PeaceHealth donated the land for the community and gifted $2.4M in capital funding.

The grand opening celebration included guest speakers, remarks from local and state representatives, and a tour of the community from members of the Resident Services team.

“A safe, stable place to live is critical for good health of any kind,” said Steve Walker, executive director of the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. “This new community highlights that and we’re proud to be a part of the financing through the federal housing tax credit.”
