About Carlton Apartments
Located in the Sheridan Park Historic District of Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, Carlton Apartments provides 68 apartments of permanent supportive housing for adults, including many who have experienced chronic homelessness and people with disabilities. The historic building with distinctive Collegiate Gothic architecture was built in 1925 as the Carlton Terrace Hotel. Mercy Housing initially acquired and renovated the building in 1993.
The 2022 rehabilitation of Carlton Apartments included updates to private apartments and community spaces, including adding building-wide air conditioning and Wi-Fi internet, updates to kitchens, bathrooms, and in-home furnishings, as well as reconfiguring ground-floor community and services spaces to better serve residents.
