Women and people of color are disproportionately affected by eviction. Having an eviction on one’s record often has a debilitating effect on finding housing and continues the cycle of poverty. When a Mercy Housing Northwest resident has trouble making their rent, we work with them on a housing support plan and, when appropriate, offer financial assistance through the Sister Edwardine Eviction Prevention Fund.

About Sister Edwardine:

Sister Edwardine was a Tacoma Dominican who worked with families migrating to the U.S. from Cuba. She specifically helped support families whose children emigrated first, without their siblings and before their parents. As these children grew into successful adults, they started a fund to assist MHNW residents who were struggling from a one-time setback. They named their fund after Sister Edwardine who looked out for them when they first arrived in the Northwest.
