Ensuring that residents have access to healthy food is always a goal for Mercy Housing’s resident services. At Savannah Gardens, we have introduced several ways for residents to have affordable options for overcoming food insecurity, including a food pantry and healthy meals for children attending summer camp.
Most recently, with support from the nonprofit, Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry program, we’ve created a program that pairs community involvement, nutrition education, and a partnership with Instacart in Savannah. Residents can receive a free Instacart membership and $40 in Fresh Food Bucks to purchase fresh meat, fruit, and vegetables each month.
In March, a new partnership will launch, bringing the locally famous Forsyth Farmers Market to Savannah Gardens so that residents can access farm-fresh, local produce and other products.
